Can anyone (besides Keith Sanders) identify the following for me: "Classified Reconnaissance and Weapon-Capable Deep-Sea Amphibious Dredge"? We're about to find out how cultured my readership is.

  10. What made me think of this was the brief comment series on the last post about the way that we esteem intelligence in other people. This episode of the Hillbillies is a classic instance of how we can overestimate people's intelligence, while the Hillbillies series as a whole is an instance of how people often underestimate the intelligence of others.

  12. I don't believe any self-respecting Cajun would ever refer to them as crawdads. They're crawfish.

I was told that by some Loo-zee-anner folks with whom I had a rip-roaring good time in the back yard of the Sheraton Baton Rouge in 1975, putting a big dent (personally) in the crawfish population at a REAL old-fashioned crawfish boil. They even gave me an honorary name I can't repeat, in respect of my lacerated thumb gotten by dint of peeling a whole big pile of them things.
